Junior Leadership Academic Bowl is split into two teams: the Leadership team and the Academic team. The Leadership team is tested on all JROTC knowledge, ranging from LET 1 to LET 3 curriculum. The Academic team is tested on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), as well as JROTC knowledge.

Each team made up of four primary Cadets and one or two alternates who are either freshmen, sophomores, or juniors. Seniors are not permitted to be on the team, no matter their LET level.
